How I Get What I Want

Reflecting on life experience, I realize that I usually get what I want. I’ve also noticed that when I get what I want it’s usually immediately after saying no to something else. There are just a few examples.

I had accepted a long term sub teaching position. They added more and more responsibility to my plate and no support for accomplishing the tasks at hand. I called the principal after the first day and told him that I had changed my mind. I wasn’t going to fulfill the position. That same day, I applied for another position, interviewed the next day, accepted the job and stayed there for 4 years! If I hadn’t said no to the first position, I would not have gotten the job I really wanted!

Another time, I was dating a man and was torn about staying together. I tuned inward and decided that we were not quite a match. So I broke up with him. Within 5 minutes (literally!), I met another man who asked me out on a date. That was confirmation for me!

The universe is telling me: when you honor yourself, you get what you want. When you claim your worth, you get what you want. Don’t settle, and you will get what you want.

This is why I haven’t stayed in a job or in a relationship if it’s not working out. I’ve tried to make them all work. I could have stayed in most of my previous relationships. I could have settled, but I’m on a mission to transform, heal, expand, and know my divinity.

What about the times I don’t get what I want? I really wanted to be a school leader. Interview after interview, I was rejected. After some time, I realized that it’s not in the flow for me. It’s not for my highest good right now. It’s not falling into my lap. I’ve expended enough energy at this. Why am I not getting the job that I want? Self-reflect, self-reflect, self-reflect.

My lifestyle goals are in conflict with the position. After all, school leaders work around the clock. Nights, weekends. They attend every school event and have almost no time for anything else. Do I really want that? In addition, I know the universe is always looking out for me and has my back. Something better is coming.
